Welcome to Talking To Chicks Who Love Hoops where this sausagefest of a blog interview women that love the National Basketball Association. We all know female sports fans are a commodity for us dudes. Maybe not as rare as we think but us guys seem to think they're inferior when it comes to sports knowledge. Well, in this feature, I talk to them about the NBA and check what goes through their heads. And I ask them about everything else in an attempt to make this more fun and versatile instead of just straight sports. And watch out; these women might know more than you guys. Hell, they might even know more than yours truly.

I'm back with another edition of Chicks Who Love Hoops. I talk to fellow Laker fan, Violet Kanian.

Violet not only loves the Lakers but she also loves them primetime soaps, something that, uhh, I'm not too familiar with. She runs a website, VioletKanian.Com, where she talks about the latest entertainment and Laker news. Hell, she even got an interview with Ron Artest himself.
Violet and I talk about Lakers, bandwagon fans, her basketball skills, and her love for the Celtics. I was just kidding about the last part. My font's in blue and her font's in purple. Enjoy!
Violet,
What's going on, fellow Laker fan? I'm going to ask you the same question I asked everybody: how did you get into this? In your case, the Lakers?
--I got into the Lakers when I was about 3 years old. My mom used to play high school basketball and she and my uncle watched the games ALL the time. It was like a family event. Eventually, I had nothing better to do at the age of 3 and decided to join them. I even remember asking if "we are the ones in yellow." From then I started rooting for Magic and the team. I even remember a few years later, there were some girls in the audience with a poster that said "Nick Van Exel, PROM?" Ha ha. When Kobe came to the league, it just completely made my love stronger for the team. I watch the games religiously. My uncle is the same, but my mom can't take the nerve-wracking games. I love it; it's a part of who I am.

A lot of people have charged that a lot of Laker fans are just bandwagon fans. Do you believe that to be the case?
---I can see where the people saying that are coming from, but I know SO many people who have loved this team through thick and thin. Then again, I also know people, who all of a sudden, LOVE them when they kick butt. Those people who never mention Lakers now have their FaceBook statuses saying "I LOVE LAKERS!" or "GO SHANNON!" It pisses me off, definitely. But what can you do? If you're a true fan, you know you're a true fan; you can't let the bandwagon people get to you. Every team has bandwagon fans. Just think of the Celtic fans from 2 seasons ago. -_-
You're into the Lakers but is there anyone or any team in the league you respect? I already know that you don't like the Celtics and the Cavs.
---You are definitely right. I definitely, wholeheartedly, with every bone, vein and artery in my body despise the crap out of the Celtics. I wish nothing but failure for them and their DISGUSTING team and organization. They're utterly repulsive. I actually don't HATE the Cavs, I just hate Lebron, and not because he is being compared to the basketball god (KOBE, duh) but because he thinks he is better than everyone else and he has YET to prove himself. UGH. Now for who I respect? I definitely respect the Spurs. It's because every person on that team is just really really good. I'm not familiar with some of the new people, but the teams from the past have always been very respectful. They play a very good game and that is all they do. They don't get in their opponents' faces or talk smack, and I really like that. If heaven forbid the Lakers don't win a championship, I'd want it to be the Spurs.
Do you play basketball at all? I bet you have a mean three-point shot.
---Ha ha! I have never played on a team, but in high school during PE games, etc, I was pretty good. Considering the fact I'd shoot "like a girl" and couldn't do a layup if my life depended on it, you're absolutely right. My three-point shot was SICK! Ha ha. I played very good defense too. I'm kind of proud of my defense.
. I never tried out for the team or anything, it's because I HATE to run. Running, doing drills, "hell week," those are things I could never wrap my head around. WHY??? Ha ha. I know, I know, training, etc. But it's just not for me. Plus, I have 2 bad knees from my days in Drill Team, so it would have never worked out for me. When I was younger my mom would take my sister and me to the park and she'd try to teach us how to play. I think that helped my shot.
I already told you how I ran into Kobe a few times years ago but I chose not to bother him. What would you have done differently?

---OMG! EVERYTHING!!! If I remember correctly, you saw him at the movie theaters and he walked by with a girl, right? I don't care if it's his mom, his grandma, his daughter, WHOEVER, I would have gone up to him and would have said SOMETHING. If he was nice about it, then I would have asked for a photo. You just don't give up opportunities like that!!! Its Kobe Bryant!! How many people can say they have had the chance to meet him/talk to him, and passed it up!!?? I'm still SMH at you! But hopefully you get another chance.
And this time, PLEASE take it! haha.
Looking forward to your responses!

P.S. For the 58th time, I do NOT watch Gossip Girl.
---It's OK, you don't have to hide it from me, I totally understand!!! Hot girls, great story lines.. its allll good. I won't tell anyone

So she doesn't like anything Boston. Boston Celtics. Boston Bruins. Boston Red Sox. The old band, Boston. Boston Market. Eh, let's move on to the next E-Mail.
What's up, Violet?
---Hello!!!!
You said that you'd rather have the Spurs win? That's kind of weird. Would you say they'd be your second FAVORITE team if given the choice? Ha ha ha.
---I guess you're right. OF COURSE I want Lakers to win.. no doubt about it, but I'm saying if BY CHANCE (heaven FORBID) we don't win, then I would want the Spurs to win. I wouldn't call them my second favorite because they're not a favorite. I don't watch their other games, etc. But I definitely respect them.
So you hate Boston that much. I told you that Eliza Dushku is a Celtics fan. How about this situation: pretend Ray Allen's car broke down nearby and he asked you for help, would you help him?
---Ugh, after you told me that, I dislike Eliza. Maria Menounos is the ONLY Celtics fan I like, and that is saying a LOT. If Ray Allen's car broke down and he asked me for help.. I'd laugh in his face and shut the door. Then I'd wave my Lakers flag from the window. MUAHAH. I want him to suffer.
And continuing with this Boston hate, would you want to see them in the Finals so that the Lakers can exact revenge on them? I would want to see them. To me, it'd be worth more if the Lakers beat the CELTICS in the Finals.
---I would LOVE a Celtics rematch. I want the Lakers to WHOOP their behinds. I want them to make the Cetlics wish they were never born. I want to see blood and broken bones (from the Celtics). I want my revenge. Sweet, sweet revenge. They will go down and their stupid grins on their faces will turn to frowns and tears. Ugh. The amount of hate I have for that team is unbearable.
Back to the Lakers, any other Laker favorite besides Kobe? Maybe Robert Horry? Shaq? And give me your favorite Laker moment. Or maybe 2. Maybe 3!

---OF COURSE, my other Laker favorite is Lamar Odom. He is my everything!
. I love him so much. Not just on the court, but off as well. There is just something very special about him. Other than Lamar, other really big favorites from the past are definitely Caron Butler (loved him SO much!!!), Trevor Ariza (OF COURSE), and Devean George. I thought they were all absolutely fantastic. I was very, very sad to see them go.
(NOTE: I loved how she remembered Caron Butler. Caron only played one year for L.A. But Devean George? Really?)

---My favorite Lakers moment was the first game I went to. It was in February of 2006. The Lakers sucked pretty bad, I mean, we had Smush and Kwame -_-. We got 4 tix (me, my uncle, my mom, my sis) for 5th row right next to the Laker tunnel. It was absolutely amazing. I paid no attention to the game, to say the least. I was interacting with Vanessa and Natalia, who were sitting a few rows above us, and watching the guys on the bench. After half time, Kobe ran out of the locker room and gave me a high 5. I thought my whole life was complete. It was SO incredible!! My other favorite moment, of course, was when I met Kobe Bryant. I have only felt like that once before (when I met Will Smith). It felt like a complete dream (I have had SO many dreams that I met him before). He was the nicest person ever, I was pleasantly surprised. My hands were shaking SO much I couldn't even give him the picture for him to sign. He was very very patient and just one of the nicest people I have ever met. I will FOREVER remember that moment. I will be telling my grandchildren about that. And I'm so proud of myself because I told him that if Lebron thinks he is king, then Kobe is basketball god. He laughed, I could tell he was loving it.
That was in October 2009.
Hey, I know people like their quality time. That's why I left Kobe alone! I figured he was enjoying his alone time. And everyone there didn't stop him, either! But, hey, I figure that I'll see him again in the future. Right? RIGHT?
---Of course, you'll see Kobe again, but only if you really want to. I believe that if you REALLY want something, and dedicate your time and energy to it, you will achieve it, regardless what it is. And I STILL say you should have stopped him. Its Kobe friggin Bryant for heaven's sake!
And last question... is there anyone you'd like to see in a Laker uniform?
---Honestly? I want Trevor Ariza back. I (now) love Ron Artest on our team, but I'd absolutely love it if they were both in purple and gold. Plus Houston's colors don't even match Reezie. He looks great in Purple and Gold and he plays great in it too. I really really miss him. Other than that, no one else comes to mind. Our team is sacred, don't ruin it. Ha ha.
Thanks for doing this. I think this is going to be a start of a beautiful relationship!
---You're very welcome, thank you for having me do it.

---90210 starts again in March, you've got some time to catch up! Melrose Place too.
Ha ha ha. The hatred is deep. I'd love to see her interact with a Boston Celtics fan. I've interviewed a few of them in the past.
Anyway, I want to thank Violet for doing this. I'm glad that she never forgot Nick Van Exel. And, uh, Devean George. Ha ha.
